Lysaght is supporting a new initiative, ‘The House That Youth Built’, which is a program designed to engage young people in the construction industry, providing them with experience and new opportunities while helping to raise money for a worthy cause.
The initiative was developed by leading construction industry consultants, Provident Project Management, and involved students from TAFE NSW designing a house, with the concept drawings then prepared by Western Sydney University.
Following the design process, students from TAFE NSW assisted to build the house in conjunction with PBS Building and specialist subcontractors, and took an active role in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and roofing installation.
The end result of the students’ labours is a stylish, relocatable two-bedroom design which is ideal for use as a granny flat or holiday home. The house features a generous kitchen, a combined bathroom and laundry area, 2.4 metre ceilings and a spacious verandah along the entrance.
The home will be on display at the Sydney HIA Home Show from 13-15 March where it will also be auctioned with proceeds going to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Lysaght has contributed materials to the project including LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® cladding in COLORBOND® steel Basalt® in a Matt finish, LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® cladding in COLORBOND® steel Shale Grey™ in a Classic finish, and rainwater goods comprising of LYSAGHT NOVALINE® FASCIA and LYSAGHT® half round gutter.
National Manager – Lysaght Marketing and Innovation, Matt Lloyde, said that the company was extremely excited at having been involved with such a worthwhile project.
“The benefits of an initiative such as ‘The House that Youth Built’ are fantastic on many levels,” Matt said.
“On the one hand, the program provides opportunities and valuable learning experience to young people within the construction sector – they may be still studying, but they are the future of our industry. And secondly, the proceeds from the sale of the house are going to an extremely worthy cause."
“For Lysaght, it was a very easy decision to support this project.”
The Sydney HIA Home Show is being held from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 March at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour.
