The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) Sustainability Awards, proudly supported by BlueScope as the major sponsor, recognise outstanding contributions within the steel supply chain that drive positive sustainable outcomes for the built environment. BlueScope congratulates the winners and the highly commended.

The awards celebrate remarkable accomplishments in both the use of steel in building and construction projects, as well as company sustainability initiatives. Importantly, the awards provide the opportunity for the combined works of Australian steel manufacturers, designers, architects, engineers, builders, fabricators, distributors, individuals, and teams to showcase their collaborations and achievements.

The Sydney Modern Project at the Art Gallery of New South Wales won the ‘large-projects-over-$10m’ category. The project almost doubled the exhibition area and has transformed the gallery experience. The new building incorporates the latest sustainable methodologies, including material reuse and achieved a 6-star Green Star accreditation.

Arup (engineer) submitted the project for consideration and worked with the designer, Japanese architectural firm SANAA and Architectus as the Executive Architect. Richard Crookes Constructions was the head contractor, and SSA-certified Samaras Structural Engineers was the steel fabricator.

    • Highly Commended: New Fitzroy River Bridge
       
  • Small Projects, less than $10 million:
    • Winner: Umbagong District Park Pedestrian Bridges
       
  • Company Sustainability Initiatives:
    • Winner Large Business: The Road to Sustainability Through Good Health and Safety
    • Highly Commended Large Business: BOS Slag Utilisation
    • Winner Small Business: Shore Brace 400
