Evolution Axis was instrumental in bringing the Institute’s award-winning, linear design to life using strong, streamlined materials that mirror the physiological elements and performance of the elite athlete’s body.
The architectural team at Sandover Pinder (now Carabiner) confidently specified the Evolution Axis panels in four COLORBOND® steel Custom colours (Alliance Grey, Silversmith, Silver Cloud, and Cortex®1) for the building’s side exterior walling. The combination of earthy and metallic colours created subtle variations in texture and character to lift the façade. This provided a modern complement to the surrounding site, which is characterised by parchment blockwork from the eighties, big gum trees and grassy sports ovals.
“The roofing system was a particularly important consideration for this project, particularly over the aquatics area where issues can arise due to the humid and corrosive environment,” said Michael Chamberlain from Sandover Pinder.
Unlike other roofing systems which require a further soffit or ceiling treatment, the Kingspan Trapezoidal panels are finished on both sides. This means they could double as a roofing material (made from COLORBOND® steel Surfmist® in a Classic finish) and internal AQUAsafe liner, that met both thermal performance and aesthetic requirements.
"The single panels allowed us to bring the design to life with fewer joints for a more streamlined finish and because the panels are manufactured offsite, the installation was relatively quick,” stated Chamberlain. This not only delivered a clean, streamlined finish, but sped up the project timeline and allowed other trades to access the building sooner.
