The primary goal for Valley Pack was to build multiple Controlled Atmosphere (CA rooms) and freezer rooms with a hermetic seal and in accordance with FM Approved building standards to meet insurance requirements. ASKIN manufactured and supplied 5000m2 of XFLAM interior walls and ceilings made from COLORBOND® Intramax® steel.

The Project

Valley Pack provides Cold Storage and International Logistics Services to producers of perishable commodities. As the Melbourne based business is growing, they required a new facility to be built beside their existing premises at Shepparton, Victoria.

The Challenge

The primary goal for Valley Pack was to build multiple Controlled Atmosphere (CA rooms) and freezer rooms with a hermetic seal and in accordance with FM Approved building standards to meet insurance requirements.

Controlled Atmosphere rooms are required to be 100% airtight to allow for the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, as well as the temperature and humidity to be regulated.

The Solutions

Using an FM approved panel system and built-in compliance with FM standards were key to the success of this project.

In the very early stages of development, Valley Pack liaised with the ASKIN Engineering, Design and Drafting teams to assist with designing a building that met their needs, while ensuring correct and conforming building products were specified.

ASKIN manufactured and supplied 5000m2 of XFLAM interior walls and ceilings made from COLORBOND® Intramax® steel. ASKIN’s XFLAM Panel with its superior joining system and stable R Values meant CA room standards were achieved.

Richardson Coolrooms installed the panel, as per ASKIN’s design which incorporated compliance with IPCA, NCC and FM.

ASKIN’s XFLAM panel products are definitely a good building product. Working with XFLAM on this project made my job much easier, and the clients have responded well to the product.

Dave Richardson, Richardson Coolrooms.

Result

Valley Pack now has a fully operational Cold Storage facility to meet the demand of their clients. The CA rooms and load-in and load-out areas means there is no break in the cold chain from storage and distribution, through to the supermarket shelf.

Using a conforming building product combined with design and a quality installation, was paramount to achieving compliance with the guidelines of an FM Approved building system.

One of the biggest reasons for us choosing to use ASKIN’s XFLAM over its competitors, was its joining mechanism. We know it holds together well, it doesn’t move around and when sealed, and it is airtight. Being used for Controlled Atmosphere rooms, they need to be incredibly airtight, and XFLAM did that!

Taylor Hall, Valley Pack.
