The Project

Sitting at the heart of the $3.4 billion revitalisation of Darling Harbour, the $1.5 billion ICC Sydney development is delivering Sydney’s exciting new integrated convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct.

Planned to be a fusion of architecture and landscape, of indoors and outdoors, of engagement, education, living, creative working and entertainment, ICC Sydney will feature striking contemporary design, leading technology, and multipurpose spaces including a grand ballroom and event deck.

A key attraction of ICC Sydney will be the ICC Sydney Theatre – an ultramodern 8,000-seat capacity theatre that will host large international conventions and touring entertainment acts.

The Solution

Seeking a profile with a strong linear aesthetic that complemented the dramatic lines and angled surfaces of the theatre, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® cladding was chosen to deliver the good looks and superior performance sought for this prestigious project.

Featuring a bold rib geometry rising from wide, flat pans, robust LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® cladding provided the strong visual statement required while also delivering excellent water carrying capacity and weathertight properties enhanced by the use of a proprietary concealed fixing system for installation.

The Process

In delivering for the ICC Sydney Theatre project, Lysaght brought into play support and capabilities that assisted in both design and construction.

At an early design stage, we engaged with the joint venture architects for the ICC Sydney precinct, Hassell + Populous, to assist in determining how to best to deliver on their vision for the striking appearance of the theatre structure.

As a result of this early engagement with the architects regarding their expectations around product appearance and performance we were able to supply their desired colour, COLORBOND® steel custom colour Scottish Red, with a full BlueScope Lysaght warranty.

With profile and colours decided, delivery was another key area where Lysaght’s strengths came to the fore as our custom-engineered mobile rollformer was brought onsite to roll-to-ground the long-length LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® cladding sheets for the roof.

LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® Cladding

An advancement of the original concealed-fix roof cladding, with bold ribs making a strong visual statement rising from flat pans, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® cladding is a superior product which has earned FM Global approval.

Offering supreme watertightness, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® can be used with the LYSAGHT LOK-KLIP® end and expansion joint system on roof slopes as low as one degree.

LYSAGHT® Standard and Custom Flashings

Lysaght manufacture a range of standard flashings for the LYSAGHT® range of roofing and walling products, including Roll Top Ridge Capping, Barge Capping and Barge Roll. In addition, flashings can be custom manufactured in a range of shapes and profiles.

LYSAGHT® Mobile Rollforming

With this innovative, nationally relocatable production capability, extremely long lengths of profiled steel roofing, potentially up to 800m, can be manufactured on-site and even delivered directly onto the roofing structure in one continuous operation for structures up to 12m eaves height.

Utilising a mobile, enclosed trailer-mounted, custom engineered rollforming machine, Lysaght can manufacture the exact project requirements on-site, synchronised perfectly with the construction timeline to ensure efficient and cost-effective roof construction, a more precise coverage and reduced product wastage.
